IN TOUCH WITH GOD    by Edward Heppenstall

Good Success NOVEMBER 12

THE HONOR OF THE SAINTS

This honour have all his saints. Praise ye the Lord. Ps. 149:9.

The Christian church is a divine aristocracy. Every member has the same high standing and privileged calling before God. Therefore we must not rest content with an inferior sense of self-worth. We are to claim the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.

We all have that great honor of equal access to our heavenly Father. "In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him" (Eph. 3:12). If Christ received only perfect people into His fellowship, He would sit alone. But He receives us, whatever may be our faults. He waits to give freely and richly to us all. "For the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him" (Rom. 10:12). We may come to God with the confidence of Moses, with the triumphant spirit of Daniel, even with the undefeatable spirit of the apostle Paul. We are to live our lives like princes of God, sons and daughters of the King of kings.

God is no respecter of persons. Let us make the great commitment. The cold Christian can be stirred to new life. The hardest characters can become musical instruments in the hands of God. The coarse, rough personality can become a polished shaft. The vessels of clay can be transformed into urns of alabaster. Measureless treasures have been made available to us all.

One of the saddest stories in the Old Testament tells of when "Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king's face" (2 Sam. 14:28). It is easy to imagine the misery of men situated like the disgraced son of King David. They witness the joys and pleasures in which they cannot share. They are close to power without any sense of security. They live in the shadow of the king's palace with the feelings of a captive. Absalom grew desperate to see his father's face. He finally obtained reconciliation.

God is not like that. We have not so learned Christ. We are not to remain in suspense and sadness outside the pale. We believe in God's acceptance of us to forgive us for every sin.
